Open Slot Slurry Injection
Three Variations of Slurry Injection Techniques
These lower emissions from slurries and liquid manures by placing the manure below the crop canopy, that reduces the surface area exposed to the air and the air flow over it.
Depending on the crop height, these machines’ efficacy can change. The three primary categories of machines are:
Trailing hoses:
Slurry is dumped at ground level onto grass or arable land using a network of flexible tubes known as trailing hoses. It is possible to apply it between the rows of a crop that is growing.
Trailing shoes (or feet)
Slurry is typically released through rigid pipes that end in metal “shoes” that are intended to ride along the soil surface and separate the crop, allowing slurry to be administered directly to the soil surface. Some are made to make a small slit in the soil to facilitate infiltration.
Slurry Injectors – The CIA Way
By burying the manure below the soil’s surface, our slurry injector lowers emissions by reducing the amount of manure that is exposed to the air and improving infiltration into the ground. Compared to the more conventional muck and slurry spreaders, they are typically more efficient.
By pumping the slurry straight from the effluent pond, CIA Ltd. reduces compaction because slurry equipment may be rather heavy when working on Canterbury paddocks. Pumps are used to pump the slurry through an affectionately referred-to flexible pipe known as the umbilical cord. Slurry is piped to the rotomax rather than being towed behind the tractor, where it is then immediately injected into the ground. Up to 2.6 kilometres can be travelled by the pipe from the effluent pond.
The Rotomax’s slot injectors create shallow holes in the soil that are typically 4-6 cm deep and 25–30 cm apart and are then filled with slurry or liquid manure. On grassland, they are most frequently applied. Ammonia emissions are often decreased by 70%.
Direct slurry dispersion results in enhanced N availability in your soils and a quicker turnaround for paddocks that are suitable for resowing and grazing.
