Effective on Farm Slurry Solutions

With fertiliser prices soaring and concerns over its supply, as well as questions over slurry ammonia emissions, farmers are being urged to look at how bacteria and enzymes can help producers capitalise on their slurry’s true value.

Central Injection Agri takes Slurry Seriously

Heavy Duty Pond Stirrers from Central Injection Agri mixes the effluent together and helps agitate the solids so that they’re broken down and kept in the solution, rather than settling at the bottom of the pond. If you allow the solids to settle, they build up over time using up the pond’s storage capacity.

In the panic to get mixed slurry out into the field, it can be easy to overlook the extreme risks that slurry mixing and spreading can pose, particularly that of slurry gas.

What is Slurry Gas?

Slurry gas is a toxic mixture of gases, created as a by-product of the fermentation of slurry.

The most dangerous of these is hydrogen sulphide, which can quickly overcome and kill farm workers and livestock, even in the open air.

The gas is heavier than air and so has a tendency to linger around slurry pits, can knock out your sense of smell at higher concentrations and quickly displaces air from the lungs, meaning that only one breath can be enough to be fatal.

Slurry gas is at its highest concentrations for the first half-hour after mixing begins, so once the mixer is set it is recommended to leave the area entirely and take a break for 30 minutes or so before returning.

Once the fumes have dispersed and the ponds have had a thorough stir, now is the time to think about how to maximise the goodness within the liquified slurry.

Of course, now is the opportune time to mention the CIA’S  Veen Huis Rotomax, ,the Veen Huis Quantra Pump unit (which can hold up to 11,000 litres of effluent) ,and the premium-ject 1200 injector

Being passionate about how this system is a game changer for New Zealand Farms. Reducing input costs and maximising a farming by product is surely a win win for the Farmer and for the Environment.

We have clients throughout Canterbury including Oxford, Rangiora, Leeston, Ashburton and of course right here in the Timaru District.
